The Extreme Novelist: How to Write a Great Book in 8 Weeks

Everything you need to know to get your book written...and still have a life.

For seven years, in the Washington, DC metro-area, I have taught novice and experienced writers the skills that have empowered them to finish a first draft of their books within two months. (Amazing, you say? How many months/years have you labored to get your novel written?) The course was called: The Extreme Novelist. Since finishing that 8-week course, some of my writers have gone on to secure literary agents to represent their work to major publishers. Some of these have sold their novels to big names like Macmillan, Simon & Schuster, or HarperCollins (my publisher). Others have chosen to publish independently for better control over their creative output.

But, sadly, unless a writer lived in DC, Maryland, or Virginia--that course was not easily accessible to them. Authors from farther afield asked if there was any way I could teach the course online. Or, was there a text they might purchase? I apologized, saying that neither was available. Then, in 2015, out of sheer guilt for having to repeat, "No. Sorry, guys," I wrote the Extreme Novelist course into book form. But that wasn't enough. Many still begged for a more intimate, in-depth connection with the material.

Now, at last, there's a course that gives writers of all levels of experience (but particularly beginners) the support they need to get their books written with more confidence, less pain, and within a reasonable amount of time. (Shocking! Right?) What's more, you can do this while keeping your day job--everyone needs a stable income while learning their craft--and without neglecting duties to family, friends, and society. It's a win-win situation!

Here are just a few of the things you'll learn in this course:

  • Time management skills that guarantee you daily writing time.
  • Techniques to maximize your focus on your story, thereby minimizing revision.
  • The secret to silencing the negative voices that keep us from succeeding.
  • Hidden errors 90% of all fiction writers make, that could have been avoided.
  • Mistakes even good writers make that result in instant rejection.
  • How to establish a truly productive writing environment.
  • The magic behind doubling (or even tripling) your current weekly word count.
  • Writing "rough" to write better, as well as faster.
  • Learning to "live" in the book!
  • Knowing when your story is "good enough."

And, so much more...

I would love for you to join us. I'll share with you what I've learned during my 20+ years in publishing. This course will introduce you to tried-and-true methods and give you tools that you'll keep and use, over and over. No longer will you doubt yourself. No longer will you put your writing at the bottom of your priority list. No longer will you struggle to produce a few hundred words a day. You'll be amazed at your productivity and, ultimately, in the improved quality of your writing.

Register now, and be prepared to soar.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do I have access to the course?
How does lifetime access sound? After enrolling, you have unlimited access to this course for as long as you like - across any and all devices you own.
What if I am unhappy with the course?
We would never want you to be unhappy! If you are unsatisfied with your purchase, contact us in the first 30 days and we will give you a full refund.
Will the type of story I'm writing matter?
Absolutely not. Authors who love and write historical fiction, fantasy, mysteries, Westerns, romances, science fiction, and more, have all had success when using the tips in this course.
I've never taken a formal writing course but love telling stories. Will this course be too hard for me?
No, you'll have no trouble understanding and using the Extreme Novelist's suggestions. In fact, I've talked with EN graduates and been thrilled to hear them say that, whether they had little more than a basic secondary school education or have already earned a Masters Degree in Creative Writing, they've gotten what they most needed from the course..
I am writing my memoirs. Is this course going to be appropriate or even helpful to me?
Honestly, if you're writing your memoirs for your own enjoyment and don't care if anyone else reads your story--you probably don't need a writing course. But if you would like to make your book readable and interesting to others, you will find much of this course valuable.
I'm writing a biographical novel about a famous person. It's heavily researched and not really fiction. Can The Extreme Novelist help me?
Yes! Have you noticed that the most popular biographies these days are chock full of dialogue, active scenes, and intriguing characters? All fiction techniques borrowed from the novelist! These are what draw your readers into the story and keep them turning pages.
Will I have an opportunity to talk with you privately about my story?
I'm working on a way to add optional consultations to my courses. We're not there yet. But I do have a separate writer's mentoring service where you may reach me to ask writing questions, or look into private consultations and other services. You can reach me there: https://KathrynJohnsonLLC.com.
